Presently, this edition of the Physiologus contains 11 709 Bulgarian word forms and 704 Greek word forms in their original form as extracted from the copies. They are presented in glossaries without lemmatisation. In these glossaries all the orthographical and graphic variants of the lexemes used in the texts are arranged in alphabetical order. Frequently used words are excluded from the total number of word forms.

Range of glossaries

Glossaries are created dynamically according to the parameters selected. Each glossary's range is chosen from the dropdown menus Chapters, Translations, Copies, Texts. These parameters limit the glossary's content to the words contained in the chosen Chapter, Translation, Copy and Text. If in some menus All the values are chosen then the glossary created will contain the words from all chapters, translations or copies, as appropriate.

Creation of glossaries

A glossary is created by setting its parameters and then clicking the button Create. The chapters, copies and translations that the chosen glossary includes show up in the nested window headed Range of glossary. The glossary contains the words excerpted from the chapters of the Physiologus selected.

Words in nested windows

The words in the chosen glossary are arranged in alphabetical order in separate nested windows. Each window is marked with the first letter of the words it contains. The window is loaded with words after it is opened.

If a word is found more than once, the number of occurrences is given in brackets. When the glossaries are created, all punctuation marks are ignored (Bulgarian No. 56-65, Greek No. 27-33). For this reason, invalid words may occasionally appear, such as words with partially illegible (missing) letters, the place of which is marked with [...] in the chapters. Of the diacritics, the superscript arc (sign No. 52) is ignored. Greek vowel variants are treated as ordinary letters. Capital letters are treated in the same way as their lower-case equivalents.

Words in context

AWhen a word is clicked, a new browser page openes up. It presents in separate windows all the chapters and translations in which the word occurs. The heading of each window lists the sigla of the copies in which the word occurs, and after each siglum the word's position number is shown in parentheses. After the position number is clicked, the window shifts left so that the word can easily be seen near the beginning of the window in the row of the copy selected.

Notes

1. If the chosen range of a glossary does not match a text from the Physiologus, a message comes up announcing that a glossary with this range does not exist.
2. If a considerable number of words correspond to the chosen range, their initial loading may take a few minutes. When the same glossary is opened subsequently, the words load faster. •
